Labor Minister Urges Bouyong to Accept Cambodian Trainees for Internship and Apprenticeship

Phnom Penh, March 13, 2024៖ Minister of Labor and Vocational Training Heng Sour has called upon Boo Young, a prominent South Korean corporation, to open its doors to Cambodian students and trainees for internships and training programs aimed at enhancing their work experience and skills to meet international standards.

Mr. Heng Sour made this appeal during a meeting with Mr. Yong Man Lee, President of Bouyong Company in Cambodia, on Tuesday afternoon, March 12, 2024, at the Ministry's premises.

Highlighting the significance of providing internship opportunities, the Minister emphasized the company's potential to accommodate students and trainees across various levels, including technical skills, administrative roles, and management positions, to empower Cambodian youth with the requisite skills and knowledge.

Mr. Heng Sour also underscored the Ministry's strategic focus on vocational training, a key element of the government's five-year plan and the broader agenda outlined in the Royal Government of Cambodia's Seventh Mandate Pentagon strategy. This strategy, championed by Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, aims to transform Cambodia into a skill-based economy.

Furthermore, he outlined the national technical and vocational training program, targeting 1.5 million young individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds. This initiative, a governmental priority, seeks to equip the youth with technical prowess, enabling them to contribute effectively to the workforce. Mr. Heng Sour proposed that Bouyong consider providing equipment to Cambodia to bolster study and practical capacities.

Expressing support for the government's vision, the President of Bouyong affirmed his company's readiness to assist in realizing Cambodia's aspirations for a skilled workforce.

The engagement between Minister Heng Sour and Bouyong signals a collaborative effort towards bridging skill gaps and fostering economic development in Cambodia.
